With the upcoming release of V2, we’re excited to bring new features to how barns and pastures are managed in Legacy Horse Game. These updates will give players more flexibility and control over their ranches, making land management a key part of the experience.

Ranch Size and Acreage

In V2, every ranch will be defined by its acreage, which determines how many barns and pastures you can have, and their sizes. This shift adds a layer of realism to ranch ownership, where strategic land use will play a big role in growing your operations.

Custom Barn and Pasture Sizes

You’ll now be able to customize the size of both barns and pastures at any time (either at purchase, or you can pay to expand an existing pasture or barn):

  • Pastures can accommodate 10 to 100 horses and require 1 acre per horse (see below for more information on acres).
  • Barns can hold up to 30 horses but must be built in multiples of 10 (e.g., 10, 20, or 30 horses) and requires 2 acres per 10 stalls (1 acre for the facility and 1 acre of turnout space).

Players will also be able to start with smaller facilities and expand later, using the same prices to increase capacity as when purchasing. This provides a gradual growth path without overwhelming costs upfront.

Land/Acreage

Land is also now part of the equation, as before you can purchase that new barn or pasture, you will need to have the land to put them on!

Ranches will start with 22 acres, just enough space for a 20 acre pasture (which can hold 20 horses), and a single 10 horse barn (which takes up 2 acres), which is really just the same as V1.

But, in order to expand, you will need to purchase more land, at $5,000 per acre. You will need at minimum 10 unused acres for a new 10 horse pasture, or at least 2 unused acres for a 10 horse barn.

Building Costs and Expansion

The cost to build pastures and barns is based on their size and capacity:

  • Pastures: $1,000/acre for fencing and installing automatic waterers. So, because pastures must be a minimum of 10 acres (which can hold 10 horses), pastures will at minimum cost 10k.
    • That is after purchasing land though! If you factor land in, acreage is 5k x 10 acres = 50k, + 10k for fencing, that adds up to 60k for a 10 horse pasture, or 6k per horse.
  • Barns: Barns are a little more tricky. They will start at a base price of $40,000 to lay the foundation, install wiring, plumbing etc, but then they will also cost $5,000 per stall. So a 10 stall barn will be 90k, a 20 stall barn will be 140k, and a 30 stall barn will be 190k.
    • Again though, that is after purchasing land! You will need 2 acres for a 10 stall barn, which is 5k x 2 = 10k + 90k for actually building the barn, so 100k total for a 10 stall barn, or 10k per horse.

Selling Barns, Pastures, and Land

Not only can players purchase and expand, but you’ll also have the option to sell barns, pastures, and acreage if your needs change. However, there is a catch: selling comes with a loss. The resale values are as follows:

  • Acreage: $3,000 per acre.
  • Pastures: Can be sold in pieces at $500 per acre.
  • Barns: Have to be sold as an entire unit at a flat rate of $50,000 per 10 stalls.

These new mechanics make managing your ranch more dynamic, with opportunities to expand or downsize based on your goals and strategies.

Strategic Growth

V2’s revamped barn and pasture system encourages thoughtful planning, allowing players to expand their ranches as they grow in the game. Whether you’re looking to run a small operation or house a large number of horses, this system gives you the tools to do it your way.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to roll out exciting new features for Legacy Horse Game!
